It’s gonna be ok

Still sat about to be discharged and it’s turned into being quite a lovely afternoon as hospital surgery days go. 😂

Ended up chatting and laughing for hours with three other ladies on the mini-ward we were in and you forget how quickly complete strangers can become your little temporary support team when you’re all in the same boat. Alongside chats about husbands, kids and what we all do for work, there’s been plenty of comparing drains, pumps, sexy compression socks and “what even IS this thing attached to me?!” conversations 🤣

Speaking of which, apparently my new accessory is called a PICO pump. Sounds less like post-surgery equipment and more like a nightclub DJ, but here we are, it’s the one on the left and attached to a dressing to provide suction, the compression protects the wound and draws out excess fluid etc. Next to it is my drain which is where the excess blood goes:

From blood to tea – yuk! But I stayed for tea which was actually yummy, and can we please just do a shout out for NHS old-school pudding and custard?! Absolutely FIT. I don’t care what anyone says, it was comfort food and school dinner nostalgia in a bowl 😋:

Poor other half is beyond bored waiting for me to be released, whilst I’m here happily making friends and settling into ward life like I’m checking into an all-inclusive spa retreat 😂

That said, I think I’m finally mentally ready now for my own bed later. No overnight stay needed and th bar-steward tumour has been evicted, I’ve survived surgery, made some new mates and smashed a pudding and custard.

Overall… solid day’s work really 🥰

oh and one last thing – they’ve just released me with a gorgeous little bag to put my drain and pump into … it matches my PJs like it was made especially for me (it wasn’t but wow its like designer ☺️💕) – here I am escaping! 🏃‍♀️ not sure why my head looks so tiny compared to my body (maybe I’ll sort that on my next surgery visit🤣).
