🎵 Step By Step – Whitney Houston (https://youtu.be/sWa5vE4MUpU?si=2R4TW8WpCX2o5El5)
I nearly added Dua Lipa’s Physical, but rejected it because despite today’s physio session, I am still not remotely that energetic. 🤣
It feels like ages since I last blogged – a whole 4 days! Which means life is becoming slightly less interesting from a surgery recovery perspective and slightly more normal, which is definitely a good thing.
I didn’t want to bore you all with more daily updates of: “Still recovering”; “Still tired”; “Still in my PJs ”.
The good news is that I’ve actually felt relatively good for the last four days, albeit I’m not doing much and I’m still having afternoon naps!
I even managed an afternoon and early evening out on Saturday with the husband and a couple of friends. A few G&Ts were consumed, I made the effort to get a bit dressed up (when I finally found a drape top that hid my mismatched boobs!) and it was so good to feel a bit like the ‘old me’ again.
We stayed sat at the same table all afternoon and evening, outside but under a patio heater for Gary, who believes hypothermia is just around the corner whenever the temperature drops below 20 degrees 🤣 It was lovely and I realised how much I’ve missed normal over the last few weeks.
On to today, and it was physio day back at the hospital.
There were only a couple of us there and we were both told we’re doing really well movement-wise. We both managed to get our arms fully above our heads, which felt like a big achievement (of all the things I’ve achieved over the years, getting my arms out straight above my head was not one I thought I’d ever shout about🫣🤣).
Apparently my movement is particularly good considering my previous surgery and lymph node removal, so I’ll take that little win too.
The physio was a good reminder that whilst I might be feeling much better, I’m still healing – the movement is good, the recovery is going well, but she told us the surgery site is still fragile.
So the rules remain:
- No heavy lifting.
- No repetitive movements.
- No driving.
- No pretending I’m Wonder Woman.
At least not for a few more weeks.
And finally, today’s surprise…
A mystery box arrived and what a lovely surprise it turned out to be. My Academy gang had put together the most thoughtful collection of gifts, including chocolates, biscuits, tea, a doodle therapy book and, perhaps most importantly, a bell. A bell that my family are quickly going to regret me owning 😆 🔔
The gifts were lovely, but what really got me were the messages in the card – love them all, and the envelope addressed to ‘mum of the Academy’.
I’ve spent the latter half of my career trying to help people develop, grow and believe in themselves, often without really knowing if I’ve made much difference. Then something like this arrives and reminds me that I’ve made an impact, however small!
So step by step I’ve made progress – not massive, but lots of little wins which right now feels pretty special ❤️. The next big step is on Monday when, all being well, the pathology results will be ready- but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it!
Sam x
