Whirling Dervish

🎵Kylie – Spinning Around (https://youtu.be/t1DWBKk5xHQ?si=4RRmCCC94d5OwLP-)

“Whirling dervish” – someone who moves around very quickly and energetically, often from one thing to another.

I’ve been up since 5.30am, wide awake, and I’ve already done a wash, emptied the dishwasher, brewed up twice, read a few NHS Trust papers sent from The Christie (Governor head on, not chemo one!), washed up, sorted a homemade veggie soup for my lunch and cleaned the kitchen.

It’s now 6.30am as I write this.

I wouldn’t mind, but I’m not working and I was up before the daughter and the husband, who are both on earlies. 🫣🤣

Not all good though as I over-stewed the husband’s first mug of tea because I got distracted emptying the dishwasher – oops!

I can hear my mum on my shoulder telling me to slow down because I’m “spinning around like a whirling dervish!”

That’s another Mum phrase for my Academy. We had a discussion a few months ago about Mum’s regular use of “they left me standing there like Piffy on a rock bun.” I’ll let you all look that one up and tell me if it’s just Northern?! 🤣

Anyway, all this is in stark contrast to yesterday. I slept in after not sleeping well the night before, then went off to my chemo appointment just after 12pm and got home just before 6pm. Chemo went well, but it was slow!

There’s always such a mix of people there, all of us hooked up to our chemo drips. As you sit there and see different chairs fill up, people finish, leave and someone else take their place, I had this weird image of a human petrol station in my head.

Get hooked up, fill up with the stuff that will keep you going, then carry on your journey. Profound as well as bonkers! 🤣

Anyway, I was sat by a young lad who was only a couple of years older than my daughter. She was with me through chemo yesterday and really kept me smiling throughout. Further up the chemo suite was a lady who was 100 that day. Everyone sang Happy Birthday to her and we all shared a piece of yummy birthday cake. There was something rather lovely about that.

Usually when I get back from chemo I’m wide awake, but last night I felt exhausted, so it was bath and bed at 8.30pm. I was actually a little worried that my usual buzziness and energy for the first two or three days afterwards had gone. Last week I laid tiles down in the garage to make one end more like a utility room, for goodness’ sake!

But I needn’t have worried cos here I am. Wide awake again and energetic as ever. Spinning around like a whirling dervish before most sensible people have even had their first brew.

Let’s see what the rest of the week brings 👀

Busy bee as usual, Sam! I don’t know either of those phrases so will take that as today’s Academy homework … see, you’re still coaching us from afar! Good to hear it’s going well, take care xx
