Chemo no 5

🎵 Lou Bega – Mambo no 5 (https://youtu.be/EK_LN3XEcnw?si=5AbubwycRjrm43L6) sorry if this is in your head all day now 🤣

So we’ve made it to chemo number five, more than halfway through this first part of treatment. One thing I’m really glad I’ve done this time is take a photo at each treatment. Eighteen years ago, I remember bloods and my Dad taking me, but I don’t remember the actual chemo sessions – I can only think I completely blocked them out of my mind.

This time around, the photos help me hold on to what it’s actually like – and i can see how it’s changing me – face, hair and body! Hopefully, it will also show others that while it’s not easy, it’s not as frightening as you may imagine.

I had a lovely ice cream afternoon with my best friends the day before, which was just so wholesome and normal and much needed.

Since Monday’s chemo, I’ve been doing okay. Yesterday was my steroid energy day, so I finally got my wig cut by my lovely hairdresser. I like it, some of the length is off and it’s a bit more layered. One member of the family isn’t sold, but if it feels more like me, and that’s the point – i still won’t be wearing it a lot but it’s there as needed.

I also saw my lovely Aunty for a lovely catch up over a brew and biscuits, did a bit of shopping, got some chores done, and even made it to the gym. Today, though, it’s pjs and rest. Lesson learned – when energy shows up, I don’t have to use all of it.

Before I sign off, I just wanted to say, thank you so, so much for the messages i get from you. Hearing from people who’ve been through this has been genuinely helpful. So much has changed in 18 years, and your advice and tips have reassured me more than you know. Hearing from friends, colleagues and strangers just checking in, encouraging me to keep going, or just saying hello, really makes my day and makes me smile.😊

P.S. Because no week is complete without a Sam tale… after the gym, I popped to the shops in my cap. I came out to meet my husband (who’’d had to drive to my sons work to pick some keys up as we’d locked ourselves out of the house – but that’s another story! 🫣) anyway a gust of wind blew my cap off, so there was me chasing it down the pavement in the rain, shiny head on full display in front of everyone, husband laughing. Mortified? Absolutely. But if nothing else, chemo is providing the public with some unexpected entertainment 😂

Until next time, Sam xx
