🎵 Red Red Wine – UB40 (https://youtu.be/zXt56MB-3vc?si=s6iJI8YRX9bRKicn) …. because sadly there’s no song about red wee and you definitely don’t want to drink that anyway!
So the first EC chemo done and dusted and so far all O have to show for it is tiredness and bright red wee! 🥳
I was at The Christie for about half the time I was usually there for my weekly chemo sessions, which was a great feeling – like when you unexpectedly finish work an hour early!
We had the usual palaver trying to get the cannula in. First attempt wasn’t successful, so another nurse came over and managed it second time. Once that was sorted, it was a flush, anti-sickness medication and the other bits and bobs, like sorting the prescriptions for home. before the main event.
And then came the chemo syringes. Wowser! Take a look at the photo – I’ve deliberately included their laptop for scale because they’re absolutely enormous! 🤣 The nurse sat with me and administered the treatment through my cannula, and before I knew it, we were done.
As ever, the treatment centre was absolutely packed. Every chair seemed to be occupied, and the nurses were constantly on the go. It really does bring home just how many people are going through cancer treatment.

I got home feeling fairly okay, although I’m definitely tired now. It’s around 9pm and I’m heading to bed shortly. I suspect some of the tiredness is emotional too – starting a new type of chemo, not knowing quite how I’ll react and preparing for the next stage of treatment must all take their toll, even when I think I’m cracking on taking it in my stride.
Coincidentally on Coronation Street tonight, Kit had his first chemotherapy session for male breast cancer. Talk about timing! It was quite strange watching someone on the telly going through something I’d literally just done myself. I found myself thinking that their chairs didn’t look nearly as comfortable as the ones I lie/sit on at The Christie! 🤣
And finally, the glamorous bit.
Bright red wee! 🔴
Yep, one of the joys of this particular chemo is that it turns your wee bright red – I mean BRIGHT red for the first 2 days or so!
I remember writing a blog post called Bright Red Wee during my cancer treatment 18 years ago. It’s one of the very few blog titles I can remember, so I was tempted to recycle it (the title, not the wee – I mean not sure anyone needs recycled red wee!) but I thought we’d go for something different this time.
Now I’m off to bed, hoping for a decent night’s sleep and, more importantly, hoping I don’t spend it with my head down the loo!
Let’s see what tomorrow brings.
Wish me luck! ❤️
